Week 5
Learning Experiences
Theme
Our Enquiry Question - Should who we are be determined by where we come from?
This question will be the basis of our theme work this half term, as we consider identity, belonging, morality and much more.
Our class book, No Ballet Shoes in Syria, will support our exploration of these themes.
This week the learners had to sort values into a diamond ranking system. The learners were given 9 different values that they had to rank from most important to least. More importantly, learners were required to give reasons to support their decision.
This led to a great discussion about values and what may influence our thoughts on morality. We decided that our experiences, beliefs and families played a role in shaping our views.
Literacy/Theme
In our class book, we discovered that Aya was only allowed to pack a rucksack before fleeing Syria. I challenged the learners to imagine they were fleeing and could only take 1 racksack full of stuff with them, what would they take?
We all found it very difficult to decide, and some have magically managed to fit their whole family in their bags! They must have bags like Mary Poppin's.
I wonder if you can guess who packed each bag?
