Week 3
Week 3 Learning Experiences
Numeracy: Place Value
We have continued to look at place value this week and deepened our understanding because it underpins so many mathematical concepts.
We have begun to look at 10/100/1,000 etc more than a given number. Like any new concept, we have started by using the physical resources and pictorial representations to support our understanding. This allows learners to visualise what is being asked, rather than an abstract idea.
Procedural Personalised Assessment
All the learner's completed their numeracy procedural assessment on Thursday. We will share their results with you at the first parents evening. I was impressed with everyone's attitude and they all gave it their best.
We will repeat the assessment in the Summer Term to hopefully show progress!
This Week's Reasoning Questions. Can you find all the possibilities?
Literacy: Debate
We have started looking at our first text focus - debate. We are considering whether children should wear school uniform. We had a mini debate with some children arguing yes they should and the other half arguing no they shouldn't. This will support the learners when they come to write their cold task.
The learners tried extremely hard with their cold writes. I was impressed with how many features they remembered from last year. I did have to remind a few about the basics of capital letters and full stops. One child had one full stop, at the very end of their writing. I was very out of breath by the end!
