Autumn 2
How Do People Help and Protect Others in Our Communities?
This term, our topic will explore the important question: "How do people help and protect others in our communities?" Through a range of engaging activities, pupils will learn about the many people who play vital roles in keeping us safe, healthy, and supported, both locally and around the world.
Children will develop their enquiry, communication and critical thinking skills as they investigate the work of key community helpers such as firefighters, police officers, doctors, nurses, lifeguards, charity workers and volunteers. They will learn how these people make positive contributions to society and how their actions can have a significant impact on the lives of others.
Throughout the topic, pupils will:
- Explore different roles and responsibilities within the community.
- Develop empathy and understanding of how people support others in times of need.
- Build research and questioning skills by gathering information from a variety of sources.
- Improve their speaking and listening skills through discussions, role play and presentations.
- Consider how they can make a positive difference within their own school and local community.
- Learn about teamwork, resilience and responsibility when helping others.
The topic will encourage children to recognise that everyone has a role to play in creating a safe, caring and inclusive community. By the end of the unit, pupils will have a greater understanding of the ways people help and protect others and will be inspired to think about how they can contribute positively to the world around them.
We look forward to sharing the children's learning and celebrating the ways they discover that even small actions can make a big difference.
