Spring 2
Welcome back to the Spring 2 term!
This term, we are concentrating on the 'Fire in our belly'. We will be exploring all things Welsh, including cooking Welsh cakes to aid in learning about weights, singing Welsh songs, delving into the story of Gwenllian, and examining maps to understand the various places in Wales. Additionally, we will spend time constructing castles and understanding the features of these fortifications.
Our topic will focus on the Myths and Legends of Wales, particularly the story of Gwenllian and her significant role in shaping Welsh history. Throughout this journey, the class will acquire skills such as identifying adjectives and utilising them correctly, as well as understanding similes.
Instead of focusing on a specific book, we will be exploring the story of Gwenllian in a comic format. This approach will enable students to perceive literary texts through different mediums.
19.02.2023 - 23.02.2023
On 20th we were lucky enough to have some visitors during the FROGS coffee morning. The class loved to explore the amazing miniatures and even designing their own.
To help support us in getting a character portrait completed at the end of term we have started this week by looking at what adjectives are and how we can use them correctly. Due to this we spent our outdoor learning session using natural recourses to make a portrait either a self portrait or one of a friend. we then looked at describing these using additional adjectives such as 'long, short, big or small'. Although collecting these items was a blast making the portraits was even better.
26.02.2023 - 01.03.2023
This week, our focus was on exploring the diverse features of castles, studying their locations across Wales, and beginning our analysis of what to include in our character portraits.
In our quest to discover the various castles scattered across Wales, we utilized maps to pinpoint their locations, honing our skills in zooming in and out for detailed exploration. From an aerial perspective, we scrutinised the unique features of each castle, such as moats or proximity to the coastline.
Furthermore, we delved into a character profile, delving into the fascinating persona of Bluey. Our attention was drawn to the adjectives employed to portray her appearance, personality traits, and background information.
In our Physical Education session, our focus is on Rugby and mastering the correct techniques of play. We began with engaging warm-up games to prepare our bodies, followed by dedicated practice on running and dodging skills. Collaborating in pairs, students progressed from walking towards each other to executing slow jogs and eventually fast sprints, all while emphasizing safety protocols. Afterward, we transitioned to a cool-down phase, incorporating breathing exercises and mindfulness techniques synchronized with calming music to aid relaxation and recovery.
🏉
Of course, we had to conclude the week with a fantastic celebration of St. David's Day on March 1st. Everyone looked splendid, adorned in traditional Welsh costumes, and we thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the vibrant display of Welsh culture.

What a wonderful afternoon we spent outside enjoying the easter Olympics. Everyone had so much fun!
🐣
Today (19/03/2024) Dosbarth Cadno went for a lovely educational visit to Oystermouth castle. We have been concentrating on the history of Gwenllian and the features of castles. The class went around in two groups to observe the different areas of the castle.
🏰
After the castle we headed off to Joe's Ice Cream in St Helens for lunch and a treat.
(I am pretty confident this was the class and my favourite part of the day 😉)
🍦
Finally we went to Dobbies Garden Center who were kindly donating stock for our Gluncollen in bloom. after considering the items we would like as part of our classroom challanges last week we decided that we wanted some wild flowers, herbs and some plants that would attract wildlife to our outdoor space.

Da iawn dosbarth cadno for a wonderful day!
This morning Glyncollen completed a Easter bonnet parade. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get any pictures of the parade but our class did an amazing job and we danced our way through the school to show off their lovely bonnets. Here are all of the entries to the bonnets that entered today!
