Reading Dogs
At Glyncollen we are fortunate to have two reading dogs that are trained to deliver the burns by your side programme. The programme uses trained individuals and their companion dogs to help children improve their literacy, communication and confidence skills. Reading to a dog can help a child to increase their feelings of wellbeing through reading or just by being around a trained dog. It uses a non-judgemental approach where the majority of the communication and help is provided through the dog. In addition it provides training for school children on how to respect, nurture and care for companion animals and be less fearful and safe around both unknown and companion dogs.
The dogs are always pleased to see the child, will never judge and are great listeners.
Meet Dustin!
Dustin is one of the reading dogs who visits Glyncollen Primary School. Here he is sitting with our class mascots.
