Developing the Welsh Language through Cultural Activites
The Big Cwtch Event
The crowning of the bard was a special moment in our Eisteddod. The children are asked “A oes heddwch?” and they respond “Heddwch” . This is done three times. The winning poem is then read aloud, and the child who wrote it is invited to stand and make their way to the front of the hall, where they are crowned by our headteacher, Mrs Hamilton. It is a real honour and something the children aspire to and look forward to every year. Our winner this year was Izzy Malough from year 6.
World Book Day with a Welsh theme
A lovely St David’s Day assembly with Mrs Hamilton. She focused on St David’s special message: Do the little things. We talked about how small acts of kindness can make a big difference and thought about simple, kind things we could do to help others each day
Gwyl Cymru: Identity and Belonging - A celebration of Welsh Culture, Language and Community
We decided to base our Eisteddfod theme on dreams, linking it to the theme of the main Urdd Eisteddfod 2026, “Breuddwydion” (Dreams). This theme was explored through a range of competitions in art, design, technology and literature. To begin, each child was invited to create a tile illustrating their dreams for the future. These tiles were then brought together to form a mosaic wall display. It created a lovely whole-school piece of artwork that brought everyone together and helped to launch our celebrations.
