Summer 1
This term, our big question is "How can we learn from the past and create a more peaceful future?" We’ll be looking back at important events like VE Day and exploring how people used coding and data at places like Bletchley Park during World War II to help bring peace. Then, we’ll look at how we use data and coding in our world today and think about how it can be used for good. In Science and Technology, we’ll be learning how to code and work with data ourselves, becoming confident digital citizens.
In Literacy, we’ll focus on discussions and understanding different sides of an argument. We will learn how to share our ideas clearly, listen carefully to others, and explain our opinions respectfully. This will help us to solve problems calmly and kindly — just like people have had to do throughout history. We'll be using our oracy skills in debates and class discussions, developing our reading skills by exploring different viewpoints, and practising writing balanced arguments.
We’ll also use numeracy when we look at real data, such as information from wartime and modern sources, to spot patterns, ask questions, and make sense of numbers. Using what we learn, we’ll start to understand how the choices we make — and the way we speak and act — can help us create a more peaceful and fair world for everyone.
