Spring 1
Welcome to the Spring Term! We are very much looking forward to welcoming back dosbarth Draenog back to school after a restful Christmas break. Please see below of a notice with a slight change to our usual routine in Reception ![]()
After the Christmas holidays, book changing will move from Monday to Wednesday. This means that children will now bring home new reading books every Wednesday instead of Monday. Please continue to support your child by sharing their reading book regularly at home and enjoying reading time together.
Week 1
Welcome back Draenog's! It has been lovely to see you all in class the last few days. We have enjoyed being together again and learning about lots of lovely things! We have particularly enjoyed telling each other stories from our 2 weeks off
Just look at how many recognition cards were given out on Thursday, what a great start to our new term!
Here we are, finally (after all of the snow and ice!), enjoying some time exploring outdoors! During Wednesday morning (7th of Jan), we enjoyed exploring the differences outdoors now that everything is melting. We were able to play with our friends and enjoy some time on the equipment we have ![]()
Our PE sessions this term, will focus on striking and fielding games. Our session today (8th Jan) focused on simply throwing a beanbag carefully using under arm skills. We began by playing games as a warm up and then worked together to practise our throwing skills. We enjoyed working in pairs to practise throwing the beanbag carefully towards each others feet to make sure we were all being safe and respectful. Da iawn pawb!
Week 2
During our maths sessions with Mrs Myatt this week (January 15th and 16th), we have been focusing on 4 sided shapes. We have been naming, identifying and sorting different squares and triangles. Here we are finding different things around our classroom that are in the shape of a rectangle or a square.
Some of us got very excited today (Jan 15th) and we turned into a band and did a performance for Mrs Myatt! Whilst Mrs Myatt was sat with a small focus group, she was very surprised to be greeted with the performance of the year!! The children all chose different materials to transform themselves and enjoyed their photoshoot! We have some STARS in Dosbarth Draenog!
This week (Jan 15th and 16th), we continued our work on shapes with 4 sides with Mrs Myatt. We used what we knew about squares and triangles and began by searching our classroom for things with 4 sides. We then used different sized squares and rectangles to design different sized buildings with the shapes. These activities helped us solidify our understanding of squares and triangles but also apply this to a real life scenario with another focus on our fine motor and pencil control skills.
In Dosbarth Draenog, we really do love learning about each other and how special we all are. With Mrs Myatt this week, we did a lesson focusing on valuing each other's similarities and differences. With this, we then went away and designed a sheet 'All About Me' and shared some interesting facts about ourselves. It was lovely to see so many interesting facts and stories from each of our Draenog's
We will now use this work to create a book All About Us that we will have in class to share and develop throughout the year! See some pictures below of some of us completing the activity.
During our focus group sessions with Mrs Myatt (Friday Jan 16th), we have been learning all about how a seed turns into a lovely plant! We have listened to lots of different stories and here are some of us drawing how we think it happens!
Here are some lovely pictures of our lovely Draenog's in our play based learning in the classroom! Lots of collaborative play seen this week which has been lovely! Mrs Myatt particularly enjoyed water play this week (Jan 15th and 16th). Diolch pawb!![]()
Week 3
During this week (Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd January) we have been learning all about celebrating Dydd Santes Dwynwen and how important it is to show love to everyone around us. We enjoyed working with Miss Highland to complete an activity based on cutting and sticking to make a card filled with love. We chose lots of different hearts, flowers, Welsh love spoons, or even pictures of Santes Dwynwen to decorate our own unique card. Some of you may have even received a small card when we got home!
On Friday January 23rd, we started by using our Monster Phonics sounds to write about flowers and plants and what we notice. Mrs Myatt was very proud of all of us for beginning to form our letters and use the sounds we know to write different words independently. Da iawn pawb! Here is a few pictures of some of us completing the task.
A lovely end to the week (January 23rd) in Draenog class, here are lots of pictures of us playing together around the classroom and what we got up to this week!
